Q1K3 shouldn't exist. A first-person shooter with the speed and feel of Quake, running entirely in a browser, built in under 13 kilobytes. And yet here it is, and it's brilliant.
Gameplay
WASD to move, mouse to aim and shoot. Three levels of fast-paced FPS action with enemies that hit hard and move fast. The movement system captures that classic Quake feel — bunny hopping, strafing, the whole arsenal of 90s FPS movement tech.
What Works
Everything about Q1K3 feels intentional. The weapon feedback is satisfying, the enemy placement is fair but challenging, and the 3D rendering is remarkably smooth for something this small. The brown-and-grey aesthetic is a loving homage to the original.
Verdict
Q1K3 is the crown jewel of the js13kGames collection. If you play one game from this list, make it this one. It's a love letter to classic FPS games that plays as good as it looks.
